Sleep… What a wonderful feeling!

December 3, 2009

As I sit in this comfortable seat starring at a computer for 6 and a half hours straight with a pile of empty coffee cups lying in the trashcan, all I can think about is sleep. The great sensation of the soft pillow against your head, absolutely nothing going through your mind, and the ability to know your subconscious is about to take over.

To think this whole story wouldn’t have happened if Alice did not fall asleep.

How much would you be missing out on if you couldn’t dream? Have you ever had a dream about something and then wake up and ask yourself what just happened in that dream? Or have u ever had a dream and then wake up the next day to ask yourself was that real? Say if it was a realistic dream that had a moral or some type of lesson that would help you grow in life and you woke up and you thought it was real, would use that experience you gained from you subconscious to prosper in life or would you put it in the “that happened in a dream, there’s now way it can happen in real life” category and ignore the life lesson?

Knowing what you know about Alice, if this really happened, do you think that Alice would take lessons that she learned while traveling through Wonderland and use them to prosper in her life? What life lessons do you think she gained from exploring Wonderland? How would these lessons help her thrive better in real world?

  1. As a writer, I can tell you that my dreams are incredibly important to my work…I definitely use them in my day-to-day life–they almost never translate perfectly to a book I’m working on…but they always serve to spark my ideas and my creativity.

    Here’s to dreaming!

  2. It is always fun to think about these things in different ways. The big huge “What if..” questions. These are what makes the world go round. Even though according to the Duchess love is what makes the world go round. Just think if no one had said “what if…” we would not have many of the things we have today.

  3. I find really ironic how we all love sleeping and dreaming yet we get very little sleep while working on this project. Really, it’s not the fact that we can’t get sleep because we waited to the deadline to get everything done, it’s that we don’t want to miss out on the blog while we were sleeping.

As far as the post is concerned, I really think Edward has a good point. We all need sleep to survive and while we sleep we normally have dreams. Our dreams can almost be like Wonderland and everything is possible. Alice’s dream was the formation of her sleep which was in reality a creation of her own boredom.

  4. I can’t imagine a world without dreaming. I love to dream. I look forward to sleep so that I can dream. Sometimes answers to dilemmas that have been puzzling me come to me in dreams. “and i’ve stopped dreaming now I’m supposed to fill it up with something, something, something”–Animal by Miike Snow. What would take the place of our dreams? How would we fill that void? It is weird to think that this entire story could not have happened without a dream.

  5. I really enjoyed this post. I never thought about a world without dreaming and how boring it would be. If I couldn’t dream, I couldn’t have these out of body experiences that we revel about with each other. “Hey, I had the weirdest nightmare.” There would be none of that. If Alice didn’t dream, Wonderland would have never been discovered. This crazy story would have never happened.
